UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid regards the accusations by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad against the current leadership of the country as an attempt to split UMNO.

He said the former prime minister does not actually have any evidence for every accusation, including against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Dr Mahathir deliberately (made accusations) because he is trying to disrupt UMNO," he told reporters after opening the Pasir Mas UMNO division delegates conference here Friday.

Also present was Pasir Mas UMNO division chief Datuk Hanafi Mamat.

Meanwhile, Mahdzir, who is also Education Minister, said he viewed the opposition as a shaky pact that was now looking for their identity.

"If possible they want only one person speaking on behalf of the party, but now everyone is still talking (issuing statements) and until now we cannot see them on one platform. Each has its own agenda and I do not think DAP is willing to sacrifice because we know the party is dominating the current pact," he said.
