A team of five officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today raided the office of Penang exco member Phee Boon Poh on the 53rd floor of Kompleks Tun Abdul Razak (Komtar), here.

The raid is believed to be in connection to a case of an illegal factory operating in Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam for the past 10 years.

The five MACC officers arrived at Phee's office at 11.30 am and as of now, the raid is still on-going.

Yesterday morning, the MACC confiscated documents from the Seberang Perai Municipal Office in Bandar Perda to help in investigations into the case.

According to sources, the documents which were seized were connected to investigations in a case involving a wood factory which had been operating for 10 years without a permit on agriculture land.

The issue was brought up by Penang state assemblyman Dr Norlela Ariffin at the State Assembly that the DAP state government had not taken action against the many illegal factories in Penanti even though they had violated safety and environmental regulations.
