Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission does not practice double standard without any exception given to high-profile classified scandals.

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Kassim Mohamed said this rings especially true to a case involving Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in a probe linking her to an alleged purchase of a 30.11-carat diamond ring from a renowned international jeweler.

“We investigated the purchase of the RM24.4 million buy by Rosmah an hour after MACC lodged the report in 2011.

“Two hours later, I contacted the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and requested for his wife to bring me the much-talked about ring,” said Kassim in an interview with Sin Chew Daily.

Abu Kassim stressed that the following day, his officers had contacted the Customs Department to obtain verification that the ring had been shipped back into New York.

“This is the first time this matter was unveiled. I must inform you that if we investigate the Prime Minister’s wife, are there any issues we are afraid to probe?” he added.

Earlier reports stated that the ring was shipped into Malaysian on April 15, 2011 and returned to the New York-based jeweller on May 13.

Rosmah repeatedly denied purchasing the ring.
