The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission today dismissed a social media allegation over the purported donation deposited in an account of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

In a statement, MACC said it had never issued any media statement claiming that MACC's Chief Commissioner had announced that the RM2.6 billion (USD700 million) from Najib's account had been declared as a contribution for payment to Malaysians committed to fight terrorism.

MACC said the information circulating on social media was false and believed be the work of irresponsible people.

It said MACC had lodged a police report on the matter.

MACC added that it hoped the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would investigate the matter as it had jeopardised its name and reputation.

It advised the public not to be taken in by the false information and not to forward the message to others.
