The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today detained wife of former Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, Betty Chew, to assist investigations into a case of her involvement with a private company.

Lawyer Lee Khai, representing Chew said, the MACC was investigating a report on a private company, Excel Property Management and Consultancy Sdn Bhd, allegedly linked to Chew.

"As Chew's lawyer, I accompanied her to give her statement today," he said when contacted here today.

Earlier, Chew, accompanied by her lawyer and brother-in-law Lim Hui Ying, arrived at the Penang MACC office at Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, here at 10.45am to give her statement on the matter.

As at 4 pm, Chew was still in the MACC office while a group of media personnel was seen to have camped outside the MACC office compound since morning.

According to Lee, Chew would be released on a MACC bail of RM50,000.
