The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) believes the new Chief Justice of Malaysia, Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif will lead the judiciary towards excellence, said its Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad.

Congratulating Md Raus on the appointment, Dzulkifli said the MACC believed Md Raus will ensure the judiciary was free from corruption.

"The MACC also believes that he will shoulder the responsibility given to him bravely and with integrity," he said in a statement today.

He added that the MACC also congratulated Tan Sri Zulkefli Ahmad Makinudin and Tan Sri Ahmad Maarop who were appointed President of the Appeals Court and Chief Judge of Malaya.

Dzulkifli said the MACC hoped these appointments would strengthen its ties with the judiciary in the fight against corruption in the country.

Md Raus, who was the former Appeals Court President, was appointed Chief Justice effective from April 1, taking over from Tun Arifin Zakaria who retired after reaching the age of 66 years and six months. -- Bernama
