The public is reminded to lodge a report with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) if pawnshops are charging them more than two percent interest.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this was because the premises were under the jurisdiction of the ministry.

"I am informed that pawnshops can charge interest of up to two per cent. So, when charging interest, it must be no more than what is allowed.

"But if anyone imposes more than two percent, I hope reports are lodged with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government as pawnshops are under their control," he said in a press conference here Wednesday.

Pawnshops have been closed since the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into force on March 18.

After the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) came into force, the premises became a public focus.
