Bersih 4 organisers and participants were observed to have fulfilled their pledge to the authorities when they ended the two-day long rally at midnight.

The large crowd at Dataran Merdeka dispersed after intensely singing the national anthem 'Negaraku' and chanted "Merdeka!" repeatedly.

Security forces had the crowd under control as they made their way out of the premises.

After 34 hours of gathering and rallying, Bersih 4, which had been deemed illegal by police, has officially ended with no major incidents.

However, a media conference by rally organisers, Bersih 2.0, is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow afternoon.

After a heavy downpour at around 3.35pm, the Bersih 4 rally continues at the area around Dataran Merdeka. However, organisers continue to remind protesters to avoid using vuvuzelas and to keep the streets clean.

This is the second day that the couple decided to take a stroll in the nation’s capital in light of the rally.

Bersih 2.0 has labeled the food poisoning incident as an act of sabotage and an attempt to poison their participants.

Its steering committee chairman Maria Chin Abdullah said the coalition condemns the insidious act where boxes of juices offered to the public during the Bersih 4 peaceful assembly yesterday night under the guise of "support for Bersih" had been contaminated.

The Bersih 4 rally at Song Kheng Hai field was halted last night due to the lack of a sound system, said the rally's Kuching chairman Nicholas Mujah.

He said the rented sound system had been taken by its owner without prior notice and this caused problems to continue with the program at night.

Apart from the National Day rehearsals happening around Dataran Merdeka, the main roads surrounding this location, seem calm. Only a handful of bystanders and police officers are seen milling about the area.


Several Bersih 4 supporters have arrived at Dataran Merdeka. Despite a nationwide ban on all Bersih 4 paraphernalia related to the mass demonstration (including its promotional materials or any items of clothing boasting the rally's name or slogan), several supporters are seen disembarking the LRT at the Jalan Masjid Jamek station in Kuala Lumpur, decked in their yellow T-shirts.
