High-flying doctor, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, is no stranger to Malaysians today, even to the extent of catching the attention of the international community.

The sacrifices and efforts of the Director General of Health – named as one of the world's top three doctors in treating COVID-19 by a Chinese television station, Global TV Network -- and his team in helping the nation fight the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak need not be disputed.

Almost every day, messages of appreciation were conveyed to the 56-year-old endocrine surgeon, especially from appreciative Malaysians.

However, something that stole his attention recently was a letter and a 'loom band' friendship bracelet sent by a 9-year-old, who probably did not understand much of the heavy responsibilities on his shoulder.

Lara Khadijah Mcafee, who is from Kuala Terengganu, suddenly became the focus after her letter dedicated to the doctor's hard work was trending on social media.

“I make loom bands for my friends to wear on their wrist as a sign of friendship.

"I have made this blue loom band for you to thank you for all the work you are doing to help the people of Malaysia to stay safe and healthy during this virus outbreak,” the standard three pupil of Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Budiman, Kuala Terengganu wrote in her letter.

Even more touching is the last line in Lara's letter in reference to Dr Noor Hisham as her friend.

The letter written by Lara to her new friend, Dr Noor Hisham.

The little girl's efforts and thoughts were not in vain when Dr Noor Hisham replied to her letter almost a month later.

“Thank you for your letter and the lovely bracelet,” Dr Noor Hisham replied.

“My grand daughter is wearing it and she likes it!

“Your words are too kind but I am not doing it alone. I am lucky to have a great team with me to help our country.

“Fellow Malaysians like yourself have been a wonderful help by playing your part by staying at home. Please continue to do so, and together we can fight the virus,” he wrote.

Dr Noor Hisham said her grand daughter likes the bracelet.

In addition to thanking the little girl, Dr Noor Hisham, known for his humble attitude, said the efforts made during the fight to contain the COVID-19 outbreak were a collective effort of all Malaysians.

Dr Noor Hisham also advised Lara to study hard and keep up with her grades.

Dr Noor Hisham in his letter to Lara, advised her to study hard.

“One day, it will be your turn to help Malaysia. Follow your dreams and work hard for it,” he added before signing off as “your new friend, Dr Hisham”.

It must have touched the heart of not only Lara Khadijah but netizens in general.
