Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah today suggested the Kelantan government to gazette part of the area occupied by the Orang Asli community in his constituency as Orang Asli reserves land.

This, he said, would overcome the problem of the Orang Asli community regarding the land as traditionally belonging to them.

"But, they do not realise that there is no Orang Asli reserve land in Kelantan, like in Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.

"I am prepared to discuss this with the state government. If possible, gazette the land (for the Orang Asli) so that the area will not be encroached by others, including loggers," he added.

He told this to reporters after giving a lecture on 'Tunku Abdul Rahman's Vision for Peace and Prosperity' at Universiti Sains Malaysia here today.

Tengku Razaleigh was commenting on an incident where a group of Orang Asli set up a blockade at Pos Gob, Gua Musang, recently to prevent loggers from entering their land, claiming that their source of income was badly affected by the logging activities.

The Orang Asli community also claimed that the logging activities had also caused their source of water supply to be polluted. --Bernama
