The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Ministry is mulling over the need to take over the operations of the 1Malaysia People's Discount Card (KDR1M) and its effectiveness in reaching the target group.

In a statement Tuesday, KPDNKK secretary general Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad said the company issuing the card, Syarikat Buletin Informasi Malaysia Sdn Bhd had met KPDNNK and tabled the proposal.

"However, the ministry is still scrutinising the need to avoid redundancy to the initiative of the other six discount cards which were introduced by the ministry previously," he said.

On Monday, the company was reported to have requested KPDNKK to take over the programme in the interest of the people.

According to the statement, KPDNKK was also prepared to listen to the suggestion and initiatives of, especially the private sector, who wanted to help boost the well-being of the people.
