The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) will amend several rules in the Malaysian Cooperative Societies Commission (SKM) Act 2014 and the Trade Descriptions Act (APD) 2011 to be tabled at the forthcoming Parliament session.

Its minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said the amendments to the SKM Act would enable cooperatives, especially those at the lower level to compete locally and abroad.

"We find that there are successful cooperatives at the middle level but some still rely on SKM's assistance. I believe the amendments to the SKM Act will provide opportunities for cooperatives to compete," he said.

He disclosed this at a media conference after officiating the closing of the ministry's People's Tuition programme at SMK Redang Panjang here on Saturday.

The APD 2011 would be amended to improve service to the people, he added.
