DAP adviser, Lim Kit Siang today urged four Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders to fulfil their promise to resign as Ministers if the government allow thethe Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355).is debated in Parliament.

The Gelang Patah Member of Parliament said, since the proposal to amend Act 355 is listed sixth at this term's Dewan Rakyat Sitting Order, the BN leaders must honour their promise.

“The three Ministers are MCA President, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MCA Deputy President, Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, MCA Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chua and Gerakan President, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong who had previously said that they will resign if PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will debate the proposal in Parliament.

“They should fulfil their promise and submit their resignation letters to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,” said Kit Siang at Parliament lobby today.

The DAP veteran stressed that by submitting the resignation letters, the four leaders will prove that they are not power craze.

“MCA and Gerakan must put a stop to their lip service. They must clearly state that they oppose the government’s effort to allow Abdul Hadi’s proposal to be tabled at the Parliament and secondly, oppose the government’s effort to take over the proposal after the debate by him.

“Only by resigning as Ministers they will prove that they are not involved in politics for the posts, money and power,” he added.

There are 39 proposals listed in the meeting order of the Fifth Term of the 13th Parliament meeting today.

The amendment of the Act 355 was first motioned in Dewan Rakyat in May 2016 and the proposal was read again by Abdul Hadi last Nov.
