A chemical weapon known as the 'VX Nerve Agent' has been found in the murder case of North Korean national, Kim Jong Nam, at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia 2) on February 13.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the Royal Malaysia Police has received the preliminary report from the Chemistry Department of Malaysia, with regards to the case.

"The chemical substance on the exhibits has been identified as Ethyl S-2-Diisopropylaminoethyl Mmethylphosphonothiolate or 'VX Nerve Agent'.

"VX is listed as a chemical weapon under Schedule 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention Act 2005 and Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) 1997," Khalid said in a statement today.

He said, the Centre For Chemical Weapons Analysis of the department has carried out preliminary analysis involving first a dry swab on the eye mucosa and second, a dry swab on the face of the victim.

Other exhibits, he added, are still under analysis.

Jong Nam, who is the elder half-brother of the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, died on Feb 13 while on the way to the Putrajaya hospital.

Earlier, Jong Nam was at klia2 to board a flight to Macau when two women suddenly wiped his face with some substance, believed to be poison.

He had come to Malaysia on Feb 6 and carried a passport with the name of Kim Chol.

Yesterday, Khalid said, Malaysia has requested Interpol to put an alert out to apprehend four North Korean suspects in the murder of Jong Nam.

The four are believed to have made their way back to North Korea, having fled Malaysia on the day of the killing.

Khalid also said two women - one Vietnamese, one Indonesian - arrested last week had been paid for carrying out the fatal assault on Jong Nam using a fast-acting poison.

Police are also holding one North Korean man, but are seeking another seven in connection with the murder.

South Korean and United States officials have said he was assassinated by North Korean agents, however North Korea has not acknowledged his death to date.
