The Kelantan people are expected to receive clean water supply within the next 10 years through the restructuring of the water services industry, which was finalised on Sept 14.

Kelantan Public Works, Infrastructure, Utilities and Information Technology Committee chairman Datuk Hanifa Ahmad said the state government would strive to achieve the key performance indicators set by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) every three years.

"For the first three years, we must improve water supply to 75 per cent with some basic matters should be given emphasis including the quality, turbidity, handling leaks, pressure and water reserves.

"Last year we have achieved 55 per cent and we need to improve our performance by 20 percent more within three years," he told reporters after attending a state executive council meeting at the Kota Darul Naim Complex here today.

The restructuring of the water services industry in Kelantan was finalised on Sept 14 between the Federal Government and the state government which will benefit some 1.6 million consumers and ensure a sustainable water industry in the state. -- BERNAMA
