The Kedah state government hopes the proposed Kulim International Airport (KXP) will be built although it was not announced in Budget 2017.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said it might be too early to build the airport project.

"However, we are still in touch with the Ministry of Transport and other relevant parties who agreed the new airport will bring development to Kedah and the northern region," he told reporters after opening Bukit Banyan Hillpark housing project, here Thursday.

He added the question of funding for KXP should not be a problem because many private investors are keen to invest in the project.

On another note, Ahmad Bashah urged the federal government to implement the road charge (RC) on foreign registration vehicles entering via the country via the border with Thailand.

"I hope the RC will be implemented soon although we were told it will be implemented at the end of next year.

"Hopefully, it can be brought forward to the beginning or the middle of next year to provide much needed cash for us to upgrade facilities in the state." --BERNAMA
