Kedah clinched the dubious honour of being "champion" for diabetes and hypertension cases in the country.

State Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said this was shown in a study conducted by the Health Ministry in 2015.

Dr Norhizan said that the study found that 25.4 per cent or one out four Kedahans aged 18 and above suffered from diabetes, which was the highest rate among all the states in Malaysia.

"It is even worse for hypertension with 40 per cent of adult Kedahans suffering from the problem," Dr Norhizan told reporters after attending the closing ceremony of the "Klinik Penyayang Percuma" programme here today.

The health director said this were lifestyle diseases and advised Kedahans to lead healthy lifestyles.
