Kajang state assemblyman Lee Chin Cheh on Monday resigned from his position in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.

State assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh announced this resignation to pressmen in a conference earlier today. She also tweeted about the dramatic turn of events:

There were talks that Lee had resigned to pave way for Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is said to be eyeing the Selangor Menteri Besar position, currently held by Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

Abdul Khalid and PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, considered as Anwar’s 'blue-eyed boy', were involved in a bitter row that recently reignited speculation that it was linked to the position.

But, Anwar on Monday, denied the rumours, adding that the talks were 'mere speculation'.
