Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the newly implemented tax regime, Goods and Services Tax (GST) should just be scrapped.

He said the tax system before this was sufficient.

The government had implemented the GST on Apr 1, replacing the sales tax and service tax (SST).

“I think it’s better to just scrap GST. What is the point of introducing a system which your own officers don’t understand,” he said in answering a question at the Bicara Negarawan programme, today.

At the forum, the former premier continued to questioned Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s administration, the financial state of the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and Najib’s daughter’s wedding last month.

“Anybody here remember my children’ weddings? Nobody knows because I am a stingy man. No money to spend,” he said.

“But, when his daughter got married. it was the wedding of the century, not just wedding of the year,” he said.
