Johor's Queen Raja Zarith Sofia Sultan Idris today visited the tahfiz student who was allegedly beaten by the assistant hostel warden at the high dependency ward of Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) here.

Raja Zarith Sofia, who arrived at the hospital at noon, spent about 40 minutes with the 11-year-old student, Mohamad Thaqif Amin Qadhafi, and his parents.

Also present were state Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat and HSI director Dr Azizah Riduan.

Speaking to reporters after the visit, Ayub said Raja Zarith Sofia had also asked for other students believed to be beaten together with Mohamad Thaqif Amin to be taken for medical examination.

"We do not want to wait for another case to happen before taking action and I have discussed with the Health Department to monitor the situation at the tahfiz school, including the students'' health, hostel cleanliness and other safety aspects," he said.

The news on Mohammad Thaqif Amin who was warded at the hospital last Wednesday became viral on social media upon experiencing pain in the legs due to the alleged assault by the assistant warden.

Both Mohamad Thaqif Amin ''s legs had to be amputated to prevent the spread of the infection into tissues and blood cells. The 29-year-old assistant warden has been remanded until tomorrow to facilitate further investigations into the case.
