The Johor State Legislative Assembly today passed the Johor Emblems, Titles and Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017.

It was passed after all the 15 clauses in the enactment was read with the support of the majority of members of the Legislative Assembly.

The enactment was tabled by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

The enactment was supported by all the 36 Barisan Nasional (BN) elected representatives, three from PAS and one from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), whereas 13 DAP MPs and one Parti Amanah Negara and a Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) representative (PKR) opposed it.

The new enactment is to prevent exploitation of the emblems, titles and awards by irresponsible parties.

Among the clauses contained in the enactment are a ban on improper use of the emblems, titles or awards; use of revoked or withdrawn titles or awards; use of unauthorised titles or awards; and creating unrecognised emblems or insignia. -- BERNAMA
