A Johor state executive council member (exco) who was detained to facilitate investigation into alleged corruption and embezzlement of property in the state was released today.

Johor Bahru Lower Court senior assistant registrar Saba'aton Daud ordered the release of the 51-year-old man on bail of RM200,000 by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The exco was detained by MACC on March 9 and an order for his remand, for a week beginning March 10, was obtained to facilitate investigation under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act and also under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act.

MACC also seized 150 handbags, a Toyota Vellfire and RM41,000 from the man's home. -- Bernama
