Although, news on a bombing incident in Jakarta has been confirmed to be false, the Foreign Ministry reminded Malaysians in the Indonesian capital to exercise caution.

Wisma Putra, in a statement, also urged Malaysians to monitor and comply with the advise of the local authorities.

"They are asked to register at www.kln.gov.my under Online Services > e-Consular," said Wisma Putra.

Malaysians requiring consular aid, were urged to contact the office of the Embassy in Jakarta, at telephone number +62 21 522 4947 or +62 813 8081 3036 (after office hours) or email [email protected] and [email protected].

The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta Saturday said that the local authorities had confirmed that the news on the attack at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was false.

The Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Seri Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said no such incident took place and the situation in Jakarta was safe and under control after the demonstration Friday.

Other than the bombing report, there was also a false information alleging that several people were killed in the protest against the Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), who was regarded as having insulted Islam.

It was reported that hundreds of thousands of Muslims had attended the demonstration. -- BERNAMA
