: The Special Ministerial Meeting agreed to reopen all institutions of higher learning (IPT) to local and international students.
However, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the opening date would be announced by Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad in the near future.
"The Special Ministerial Meeting has examined the presentation by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) on the opening of IPTs as well as standard operating procedures (SOPs) for local and international students.
"However, the date of opening of the IPTs with the SOP will be announced by the KPT, possibly by the minister, Datuk Noraini," he told a press conference here on Wednesday.
Earlier, the KPT informed that public university studies would be held online until December 31, 2020.
However, following the opening of the school session for students in Form Five and Six, some students and lecturers urged the government to consider opening the IPTs as the Conditional Movement Order (CMCO) had ended safely on June 9.
This is because they find that online learning is not conducive and less effective for students, especially from rural areas.
