The government is set to increase the intake of Indian students into public higher learning institutions to seven per cent.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said a total of 1,500 matriculation places will also available for Indian students.

“We would like to ensure that no Indians are denied the opportunity to move forward," said Najib when launching the Action Plan for Indian Community Development (Indian Blueprint) at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Center today.

Apart from education, Najib also touched on entrepreneurship as well as other programmes to improve the socio-economic status of Indians.

The event was also attended by MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam who thanked Najib for the commitments given in coming up with the blueprint.

"This is the first official government document in the history of the Indian community development.

"MIC itself had drafted plans for Indians. However, this is the first time, the federal government has presented it as an official document," said Dr Subramaniam.
