The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has undertaken a revamp and transfer exercise involving 15 police officers and policemen of the Melaka Police Contingent in an effort to enhance integrity.

Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the first phase of the revamp and transfer exercise had been completed and that there would be a second phase involving more officers and men in the contingent soon.

"I will be at the Melaka police contingent headquarters on Friday to meet with the police officers and policemen to listen to their problems and get their feedback.

"This is to ensure the integrity of the police officers and policemen in the contingent is at its best," he told a media conference after opening a blood donation programme in conjunction with the 210th Police Day at Bukit Aman, here today.

Khalid stressed that PDRM viewed seriously the issue of integrity and would not compromise with police officers and policemen who erred as it was not the culture of the security force.

"I hope members of PDRM will accept positively the move we are taking to correct the situation and will not allow any impropriety in PDRM, especially corruption and abuse of power," he said.

The media prior to this had reported that eight police officers and policemen including two district chiefs in Melaka were nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently to help in investigations by the body.

Khalid said internal investigations were also being conducted by PDRM's Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS) on personnel suspected of not performing their duties properly.

"To date, JIPS has detained 21 police officers and policemen including from the Narcotics CID on suspicion of protecting crime activities including drug distributing syndicates," he said.
