Jeff Ooi arrested and released on police bail after questioning


After four hours of questioning, DAP Member of Parliament for Jelutong Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun was released on police bail for a month over alleged insensitive remarks against the late Datuk Haron Din.

Ooi's lawyer, RSN Rayer when met by reporters outside the police station, said that he was unsure if Ooi will be called again by the police in the future over his alleged insensitive remarks over the passing of the late PAS Spiritual Leader.

He is alleged to have posted on his Twitter account: "Adios Harun Din. Let There Be Peace".

Get to know UN Young Leader Dr Lutfi Fadil

Malaysian doctor Dr Mohd Lutfi Fadil Lokman charted history as he joined the ranks of 17 United Nation Young Leaders for Sustainable Development Goals 2016 yesterday.

The announcement was made on Sept 19 at the Social Good Summit in New York.

The 29-year old newly-wed was selected from among 18,000 nominations from 186 countries based on the work of his initiative.



Sept 22, Thursday:

Viral video: Kissing couple are not teachers


Investigation of a video purportedly of two teachers smooching turned out to be untrue as they were not teachers and it did not involve any Education Ministry institution.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the video recording, which went viral on social site, was believed to have been shot eight years ago at a plantation in Segamat, Johor.

Cheers rang out from some 1,000 sports fans who filled the Pavilion shopping mall soon after the paralympians arrived in a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus.

The Malaysian contingent consisting of 21 athletes led by chef de mission Dr Ang Kean Koo were thrilled with the heroes' welcome given by the public.

Bangladesh zoo throws wedding for lions with meat cake


Bangladesh zoo keepers have thrown two lions a wedding party that included a heart-shaped meat cake in the hope of drawing much-needed visitors and encouraging the animals to mate.

Some 400 guests attended the reception laden with balloons on Wednesday for long-time resident and lioness Nova and newcomer Nabha at the Chittagong zoo in the country's south.

The highlight of the festivities was a 10-kilogramme (22-pound) cake for the couple made mainly of meat that included beef, chicken, eggs and fried liver.

Four dead in Washington state mall, gunman on the run

A manhunt was under way after a gunman killed at least four people and wounded one other late Friday during a shooting at a mall in the US state of Washington.

Police spokesman Sergeant Mark Francis said authorities believed there was only one shooter in the attack at Cascade Mall in Burlington, describing him as a "Hispanic male wearing gray."


Damansara brawl: Suspect has no links with Home Ministry

Police today confirmed that the suspect involved in the Damansara brawl yesterday has no links with the Home Ministry as alleged.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Zani Che Din who confirmed the incident at Mutiara Damansara however refused to comment further on the motive of the fight.


Sept 25: Friday:

US mall killing gunman captured


Authorities said Saturday they have arrested the suspect behind a shooting that left five people dead at a shopping mall in the US state of Washington, about 24 hours after the killings.

"Gunman captured tonight by authorities," Washington State Patrol spokesman Sergeant Mark Francis said on Twitter. There were no other suspects.


Go-kart race mishap kills two in Kuantan

A father and his daughter were killed while his son was left critically ill after a go-kart car crashed into them during a race event this morning.

Izwan Isa, 39, died at the scene while his daughter, Siti Zulaikha, 4, succumbed to serious head injuries at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital.

His son, Muhammad Izz Danial, 7, is currently in critical condition at the same hospital.
