September 16 is the day when Malaysians should celebrate the diversity which has long been moulded in this country.

This was stated by Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, in his latest Instagram post.

In the status uploaded yesterday, the brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said, the diversity, which exists through many aspects including culture and religion, is an important element that defines Malaysia.

The status was seen as an indirect protest towards the 'red shirt' rally, also known as Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu which is scheduled to be held on that date.

The rally, organised by a Malay rights group headed by Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, is held to counter the recent Bersih 4 rally.

Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar UMNO division chief, had said the rally will go on regardless if the event is permitted or not.

UMNO information chief, Datuk Ahmad Maslan yesterday said he was confident that rally-goers would comply with the laws under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.

Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had said the authorities would only consider to issue a permit if the organiser agrees to hold the rally in a contained place, such as stadiums.
