The Home Ministry will iron out details on the 3,000 Syrian refugees Malaysia will accept in the next three years, said Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

He said at the moment, the matter was still at the preliminary stage.

"This is still at a premature stage. I don't have anything on my plate. The ministry will iron it out," he told reporters when asked on Malaysia's willingness to accept 3,000 Syrian refugees in the next three years.

Last week, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, in his speech at the 70th General Assembly of the United Nations, had announced Malaysia's willingness to accept 3,000 Syrian refugees in the next three years to help in the refugee crisis involving Syrian citizens.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also Home Minister, had said Malaysia will offer shelter and jobs temporarily to the 3,000 Syrian refugees, as well as educational access for their children while in this country.

Meanwhile, in his speech at the 2014 Excellent Service Awards ceremony for his ministry, Reezal Merican regarded the two months and seven days he has been at Wisma Putra (the Foreign Ministry) as full of colours and experiences.

"I had the opportunity to participate in several discussions, meetings and made press statements to the point I was regarded as a deputy minister who did not follow protocol.

"I consider all these experiences as a learning curve," he said.

At the ceremony, 61 personnel of the serving at Wisma Putra and 34 others stationed at Malaysian missions in various countries received excellent service awards.

Twenty-two retired personnel received appreciation Awards.
