The Human Resource Ministry is currently in the midst of drafting out a holistic master plan to address the future management of human resources in Malaysia.

Its minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot said this will also include the proposed reduction in working hours to six hours per day and its implementation.

“We will not only touch on this matter. We will also study a flexible working system that can benefit housewives, for example, so that they can work from home,” he said adding that amendments to the Employment Act 1955 will also be discussed.

“We need to remember that not only the Employment Act needs to be reviewed, there are 25 other acts related to the Human Resource Ministry.

"Everything will be reviewed and studied further,” he said when met after officiating a promotional event for the ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) and National Skills Carnival and Expo (KEKK) which is slated to take place in Serdang from September 24 to 26, 2016.

Asked whether Malaysia will have a sufficient number of high-skilled workers by 2020, Riot said the country is on track to achieve its target within the next four years.

“We are now at 31%. Our goal is to have a workforce comprising of 35% high-skilled workers by 2020. I am very confident we will achieve that target,” he said.
