The appointment was announced by BN Chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a statement on Friday.
"A small reshuffle in the BN leadership has been done taking into account several aspects to strengthen the BN organisational structure.
"With this, I have appointed Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Tun Hussein as the new BN treasurer-general.
"Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor still remains and will continue to carry out his duties as the treasurer of UMNO Malaysia," he explained in the statement.
