Education Deputy Minister P. Kamalanathan said schools in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor have been ordered to close again tomorrow (Oct 21) following the worsening haze in the Klang Valley.

The ministry had ordered the schools in the three states to close on Monday and Tuesday.

Apart from the three states, schools in Kuching, Padawan, Bau, Lundu, Serian, Samarahan, Simunjan, Lubok Antu (Sarawak) and Kinta Utara, Kinta Selatan, Manjung, Tanjung Malim (Perak) have been ordered to close tomorrow.

Schools in Kuala Muda and Yan (Kedah) have also been ordered to close, Kamalanthan said in a statement today.

He said the schools closure would affect 2,528 schools and 1,734,668 students.

Meanwhile, schools in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak (Sabah) and Muar, Ledang and Segamat (Johor) which was ordered to close today, have been told to open tomorrow (Oct 21).

An API of between 0 to 50 is good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (dangerous).

On Oct 4, Mahdzir said schools closed due to the haze need not have their classes replaced and added that the measure was being taken so as not to burden the school management.
