Police today recorded a statement from Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng with regard to his statement in relation to the proposed amendment to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.
Lim is alleged to have called on Barisan Nasional component parties to withdraw from the coalition over the BN's support for the Private Member's Bill on the amendment brought by PAS President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
The Chief Minister said two officers from the Ampang Police Station in Selangor recorded the statement at 11am at the Office of the Chief Minister on the 28th floor of Komtar.
"I only gave my opinion on the status of the constitution. The statement discusses whether the hudud law is in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Constitution," he said at a press conference here.
Lim is under investigation in accordance with Section 3(1)(a), Section 3(c), Section 3(d) and Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act.
The Chief Minister is reported to have said on Nov 23, 2016, that MCA, MIC, Gerakan and SUPP should leave the Barisan Nasional over the coalition's support for the motion tabled in the Dewan Rakyat by Abdul Hadi last May seeking to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965. - BERNAMA
