An elderly woman and her two great-grandchildren cheated death after their home in Kampung Alur Tembesu, here, was engulfed in flames Friday morning.

In the 9am incident, Bunga Mohamad, 70, and her two great-grandchildren Ahmad Adam Iman Ahmad Nur, five, and his sister Nur Amirah Syuhada Ahmad Nur, three, were nearly killed before being rescued by members of the public.

The victim, who is paralytic, lived with her daughter, Zaleha Razak, 52, but at the time of the incident, her daughter was not at home because she had gone to work in the city.

According to the victim's granddaughter, Nur Shahida Din, 21, she had just sent her two children to the house before sending her husband who works in a restaurant here.

She said when she returned to her mother's house to pick up her children, she was shocked to see smoke in the distance and immediately rushed there.

Meanwhile, Dungun Fire and Rescue Department operations officer, Awin Su said upon receiving a call, a fire-engine with five members rushed to the scene but the fire had razed the whole wooden house and it took half-an-hour to fully extinguish the fire.
