The government is currently conducting a study involving the implementation of the Rukun Negara syllabus which is characterized by civic and polity in the national education system.

National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique said in realizing this goal, the ministry is currently discussing with two relevant ministries, namely the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

“The ministry together with MOE and MOHE are currently in discussion to insert the Rukun Negara Education as part of the education system again.

“Before this we had the Civic Education (syllabus) and in my time, there was Polity Education, we want to reintroduce (syllabus like this).

"It is to get the consideration of, especially the MOE, for us to reintroduce Rukun Negara Education into the education system through primary and secondary schools.

“It includes the activities of the Rukun Negara Secretariat together with the MOHE.

"Regardless, our Malaysian society needs to be educated in understanding and respecting each other, including the existing laws," she said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

She said this in response to an additional question from Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom (PH-Tampin) who asked whether the Ministry of National Unity is reconsidering the re-creation of the Civic Education syllabus which was postponed in 2013.

Commenting further, Halimah said her ministry will also launch a roadshow, “Jerayawara Berfikir Perpaduan Bersama Rakyat”, starting on August 1 followed by the launch of the Unity Action Plan scheduled for this year.

She added that the initiative is aimed at further strengthening the unity of the many races and religions in this country.
