Four people were seriously injured after a man driving a Perodua Myvi gave chase to his ex-wife's car over a dispute on child custody in Jalan Anak Bukit here Wednesday.

Kota Setar district deputy police chief Supt Yazri Ismail said in the 2 pm incident, Jafrul Nizam Jaafar, 38, was believed to have chased another Perodua Myvi driven by his 37-year-old ex-wife Marziana Mahadzir, who was accompanied by their five-year-old son.

"He had allegedly grazed the woman's car, causing it to skid and crashed into a tree," he said in a statement here.

Yazri said the impact also resulted in the man's vehicle to ram into a Proton Saga car driven by a 36-year-old soldier, Faizal Baharom, causing it to overturned and crashed into the fence of the Malaysian Meteorological Department's housing quarters.

"All of those involved sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
