A four-month-old baby girl died of suffocation at a childcare centre (taska) in Gelugor, Pulau Pinang today.

Nur Ariana Safiyyah Mohd Shauqi was said to have been experiencing breathing difficulties while at the taska and was rushed to the nearest clinic around 8am.

The baby was pronounced dead upon examination.

The baby’s father Mohd Shaouqi Zainondin, 26, said he was informed of the incident by his wife, Nur Farhana Ros Nazri around 8.30am.

“My wife called at 8.30am to inform that my daughter was experiencing breathing difficulties and when I arrived at the centre at 8.45 am, the workers informed that she had been taken to the hospital where I found out that she had passed away.

“All of those who worked at the taska said that my daughter had experienced breathing difficulties. The autopsy results showed swelling of the lungs and heart but no external injuries. We are waiting for the complete result which will be given in three weeks,” said Mohd Shaouqi when he was met at the Penang Hospital Forensic Unit.

He added that today was the third day they sent Nur Ariana to the taska.

Mohd Shaouqi said a police report has been lodged pertaining to the incident.

Nur Ariana Saffiyah is expected to be buried at the Kampung Tok Kau Islamic cemetery in Guar Chempedak, Kedah.

Meanwhile, Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid when contacted confirmed that the police had received the report.
He added that the police had ruled out foul play and that the baby had died of pneumonia.
