A family of four including two elderly were killed in a crash when their car collided with a tanker near Kamunting exit at Km 209 of the North-South Expressway here today.

The deceased identified as Othman Hamid, 68, Aishah Arof, 62, Azida Othman, 43, and Muhammad Aiman Hakim Shuhaimi,19, all of them were from Penaga, Penang.

The police however could not confirm the relationship between all of the four victims.

Taiping police chief ACP Harrith Kam Abdullah said in the 3.30pm incident, Azida had swerved her Proton Iswara into emergency lane before ramming into the rear of the tanker which was parked there.

“Initial investigations revealed that the lorry was broken down and stopped at the emergency lane. The driver also had put emergency cones at the rear of his lorry.

“As a result of the collision, the family of four died on the spot in the incident,” he said in a statement here tonight.

All the victims were brought to the Taiping Hospital.
