A former executive of a public transport company was sentenced to 14 years' jail and five strokes of the cane for committing rape and unnatural sex on a woman, last year.

Judge Datin Kunasundary Marimuthu handed down the sentence on H. N. Sathisan, 30, and ordered the sentences to run concurrently from today.

Sathisan was charged with raping and performing unnatural sexual intercourse on a 21-year-old woman in a room at First Centro Hotel, Jalan Klang Lama, Brickfields, here between 12.30 am to 4.45 am on April 30, 2016.

He was sentenced to 14 years in prison and three strokes for the rape charge and eight years'' jail and two lashes for committing unnatural sex on the victim.

According to the facts of the case, the victim met the accused after he sent a message via WhatsApp offering her a job as secretary in a telecommunications company.

Soon after they met, the accused drove the victim elsewhere on the pretext that he had to fetch several other candidates for the job.

The victim managed to call her mother after she found herself in a hotel and feeling drowsy after having a drink offered by the accused.

Following the phone call, the victim's mother lodged a police report and the police managed to locate the victim at the scene with a man (the accused).

A total of 12 prosecution witnesses and one defence witness were called to testify during the trial. -- Bernama
