Former Teluk Intan DAP division chief Hew Kuan Yau who was remanded four days to assist investigations for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on social media, is already out on RM5,000 police bail.

Johor deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad, who confirmed this, said Hew, 46, was released on Thursday (March 23).

"However, investigations are still ongoing. The investigation papers will be handed over to the Public Prosecutor for further action once the probe is completed," he told reporters after launching the state-level 210th Police Day celeberation here today.

Hew, who goes by the monicker 'Superman', was arrested by police in Penang on March 20 and brought back here following police reports lodged against him on the alleged insult and placed on remand for four days the following day.

He is alleged to have uploaded a parody on the prime minister and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor using a poster of the Disney hit movie "Beauty and the Beast".
