The investigation carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department on the fire which broke out at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here last Tuesday, has been completed and has entered the phase recording statement from eye witnesses.

Putrajaya Fire and Rescue assistant director-general (Fire Investigation Division) Edwin Galan Teruki said the full report on the case was expected to be ready in two weeks.

"We have begun recording the statements from nine eye witnesses comprising doctors and nurses at the HSA. Our investigation at the scene was completed at 5 pm today.

"Our investigation was not only focused on the cause of fire, but also in the aspects of operation and fire safety," he told reporters here Thursday.

Edwin said the inspection and investigation mounted by eight officers from the Fire and Rescue Department of Johor and Putrajaya.

Six patients in the ICU of the hospital perished, while another one was rescued during the fire last Tuesday.

Two nurses and a physiotherapy trainee was injured and currently receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital. -- BERNAMA
