The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) today confirmed that the fifth rabies victim from Serian, Sarawak has died.

According to a statement issued by Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the 52-year-old victim from Kampung Remun, passed away at 10.43pm Sunday night.

The man was tested positive for rabies on 18 July.

"The cause of death was rabies with underlying pulmonary tuberculosis," he said in a media statement.

He said as of July 24, five cases have been reported in Serian, Sarawak and all five of the victims died.

There is no new case of rabies in the state at the moment.
