The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) will collaborate with Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah) to establish the Sekolah Amanah for children of settlers nationwide.

Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said the establishment of the school was part of Felda's efforts to strengthen education in rural areas, especially Felda schemes.

"I have held discussions with Khazanah for them to establish Sekolah Amanah under Amir Foundation, whereby primary and secondary schools will be build in Felda schemes.

"The concept of Sekolah Amanah can improve the quality of education among students, and the results are quite satisfactory, as it (the schooling system) has been implemented in Sarawak, Johor and Kuala Lumpur," he told a press conference after launching the 8th Tun Abdul Razak Felda Mara Junior College (MRSM) graduation ceremony here, Thursday.

Shahrir said the establishment of Sekolah Amanah was in line with Felda's vision and goal that emphasised on enhancing the academic status of the settlers' children.

"Felda sees education as an asset that can be developed through the achievement of the settlers' children, for the advancement of the Felda community as a whole," he said.

Khazanah, through the Amir Foundation, and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and several government-linked Investment companies (GLICs) establish Sekolah Amanah to improve the quality of education, through improvements to develop the potential of students.

Sekolah Amanah was first introduced in 2011, and so far, there are 40 of them operating in Johor, Sarawak, Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The Felda MRSM graduation ceremony is an annual programme that not only recognises students' academic achievements, but also in terms of their personality and co-curricular activities.
