A remand order on two men linked to the murder of an 'ustazah' (female religious teacher) in Jeli last month has been extended until Aug 14 and 16.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said the police would carry out a detailed investigation on the men, aged 52 and 54.

He did not rule out a 'crime of passion' fuelled by jealousy as the motive behind the killing of Rudziah Shaufee.

He said based on initial investigations, the suspects had feelings towards the victim who had lost her husband about six years ago.

Speaking to reporters at the Kota Baharu police headquarters here today, Mazlan said the duo had known Rudziah, 50, as they were her neighbours.

One of the suspects was nabbed on July 31 in Kampung Batu Melintang, Jeli, a day after the victim's body was found while the other was picked up at a coffee shop in the same village on Aug 2.

On July 31, Rudziah, who was reported missing for three days was found dead on the banks of Sungai Pergau in Batu Melintang, Jeli.
