EduCity Iskandar Malaysia will play host to two exciting events in June which are expected to attract 10,000 visitors and spectators across the nation and neighbouring countries.

The first event is the Ultimate Beatdown Fight League, Malaysia's premier grassroots mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion to be held from 6pm to 11pm on June 14.

Education@Iskandar Sdn Bhd Chief Operating Officer, K. Sugumaran said the event which was positioned to provide MMA fans and martial art exponents with scenes of real life combats and self-defence situations, had seen 13 successful events in Johor and was last year held at the KSL City Mall.

"It serves as a platform for amateur and professional fighters in South East Asia to earn recognition. There will be than 20 match fights with at least eight professionals making their way to EduCity Iskandar Malaysia," he told a news conference Monday.

He said fans can look forward to witnessing fights by Will "the Kill" Chope (USA), Mostafa "White Scorpion" Ashouri (Iran), Trestle "Jun Minions" Tan (Philippines), Garie Tang and Nicholas "Diaz" Lee (Singapore).

Another event is the EduCity Sundown Malaysia, a Singapore-based night run that features a 21km half marathon and 12km race, to be held at 8pm on June 21.

"So far we have received 3,000 participants and registration will remain open until we have 5,000 participants," said Hivelocity Events Sdn Bhd Business Development Manager CG Lim.

The organiser is targeting 2,000 participants for the 21km run and 3,000 participants for the 12km run.

He said the event was part of plans to extend the Sundown Marathon brand which was created in Singapore in 2008.

Registration fee for the Men's Open, Men's Junior and Senior Veteran, Women's Open, Women's Junior and Senior veteran in the 21km run is RM90 while RM70 will be charged for the Men's Open and Women's open in the 12km run.
