The Ministry of Education is prepared to review the existing school syllabus and programmes to strengthen unity among students, said its minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said what Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi meant yesterday was to take measures in fostering stronger unity through education.

"If all the schools are different, how can the curriculum be consolidated," he told reporters after handing over Padang Terap Wanita UMNO division's 'Bantuan Rakyat Kedah' (Barakah) here, today.

Mahdzir said he would take the necessary steps to strengthen unity among students in schools.

Ahmad Zahid yesterday said it was necessary to review the education system in the interest of national unity because the existing system with various mediums, made it difficult for cross-cultural interaction among students.

He added that the existence of various medium schools from the pre-school stage up to secondary schools was an obstacle to achieving national unity goals.
