The body of a male religious school student who drowned off the coast of Bagan Lalang on Saturday was found by the search-and-rescue team at 4.38 pm today.

Sepang Fire and Rescue Station Chief Azrul Faizal Maariff, when contacted, said the body of Muhammad Farhan Zailani, 15, from Sekolah Menengah Agama Haji Muhamad in Negeri Sembilan was found stuck on a mangrove tree at a depth of six metres about 200 metres from where he was reported missing.

“His body was handed over to the police at 4.55 pm and taken to the Banting Hospital for a post-mortem,” Azrul Faizal said.

He added that Muhammad Farhan who was a participant of a motivation camp held at the beach was swept by strong currents at 5 pm on Saturday while walking along the beach near to a fishing area.

“During the incident, he and a friend had left the camping group comprising 82 students, but fell at the scene,” Azrul Faizal said.

He added that the search-and-rescue team comprising 40 members of the Fire and Rescue Department, Royal Malaysia Police, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Civil Defence Force.
