Physician Dr Fauziah Mohd Hasan, the sole Malaysian representative on board the Zaytouna-Oliva, has been released by Israeli authorities.

This was confirmed by her husband to Astro AWANI, Prof Dr Alauddin Mohd Ali today.

Alauddin, when contacted, said he received information of his wife’s release by phone around 2am today. He said he would be making his way to the Bangkok International Airport to welcome her home.

However, it is understood that Dr Fauziah needed to remain in Thailand for a day before she could return to Malaysia.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the other 10 members of the Women’s Boat to Gaza (WBG) who were being held together with Dr Fauziah, have also been released.

A Humanitarian Care Malaysia (MyCARE) spokesman said preparations were underway to deport the WBG members, who had been held by Israeli authorities since Wednesday, to their respective countries.

Earlier, it was reported that two Al Jazeera journos – Mina Harballou from the United Kingdom and Hoda Rakhme of Russian – had been released and deported first.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Zaytouna-Oliva was seized by the Israeli navy around 10pm Malaysian time on Wednesday at 42 nautical miles off the Gaza coast, and the 13 women were held at the Ashdod Port.
