KUALA LUMPUR:UMNO is ready to cooperate with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim if the PKR president has a formula that can make all parties within the party happy.

UMNO Supreme Council (MC) member, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman stressed that is also not impossible to obtain support from other parties if they think the Opposition Leader can give what they want.

He said UMNO itself has been dissatisfied since the Perikatan Nasional (PN) was formed, where they did not get the opportunity to serve the people as expected.

He said, it is thus retarding Umno’s strength as a party that can fight for the fate of the people, especially the Malays.

"If UMNO feels (its chances) are reduced, the PN government must look at this matter to be overcome. Otherwise, this relationship problem will become more complicated and others will take the opportunity to bring another proposal.

"For example, Anwar may now have a formula that can make the parties who are willing to work with him happy, (if any) other parties, UMNO, GPS (Sabah Party Coalition) or Warisan.

"If these parties feel that Anwar can give what they want, maybe they will be interested in giving support to Anwar, don’t be surprised if that happens," he said when contacted here, on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party was considering withdrawing from supporting PN.

He stressed that the party also gave new conditions to the PN government if it wanted to continue political cooperation by written agreement to be implemented as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Tajuddin explained PN's cooperation is seen as unsustainable and thus would fail to last for a long time.

Therefore, he said, the PN Government must prioritise equality factors as well as equal strength to all coalition parties themselves in the administration of the country.

He said it is a step to avoid any effort by any party to undermine other parties and build their own strength in PN.

Anwar on Tuesday also claimed to have the support of more than 120 MPs to form a new government to replace PN.

In a special press conference, the Port Dickson MP said he had presented evidence in the form of statutory declarations and confirmation of the relevant party leaders to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

However, according to a statement issued by the Comptroller of the Royal Household Istana Negara, Datuk Indera Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah did not receive a list of MPs who supported Anwar.

Al-Sultan Abdullah has also advised Anwar to abide by and respect the legal processes as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.
