Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the decision on whether to scrap the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) exams for Standard Six pupils will be decided next year.

He added the ministry is analyzing suggestions based on feedback from stakeholders, including academicians.

"We are still conducting studies at the ministry level and have yet to present the suggestions to the Cabinet. Decision on whether to scrap UPSR will be announced next year.

"The analysis includes views from various parties, including professors and others. I've also visited France to understand the country's education system," Mahdzir told reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday.

The government is looking into revamping the education system as the current one has been deemed too examination-oriented.

Mahdzir noted that the ministry is looking towards South Korea, France and Finland as benchmark for the education system.
